Aero Club of PA | ||
For Delaware Valley Pilots, Aero Club Members and Aviation Enthusiasts. | ||
The Aero Club of Pennsylvania was organized in December, 1909 in Philadelphia for the purpose of "educating the public on matters of aeronautics". This goal remains intact as we organize aviation-related seminars, presentations and field-trips. We also sponsor an annual Wright Brothers dinner and a scholarship dinner. Most importantly, we award aviation scholarships.
Aero Club turns 100!
On December 15, 2009, over 130 members and friends celebrated 100 years of the Aero Club of Pennsylvania. We had the 1909 Wright Flyer simulator from Ken Hyde's Wright Experience, AOPA President Craig Fuller, and guest speaker Connie Tobias, who has flown a full-scale Wright Model B. The event benefitted the Aero Club of Pennsylvania Memorial Scholarship Fund. Club visits the Intrepid Museum The Aero Club visited the Intrepid Museum in New York City on Saturday, October 10. The museum was recently renovated and reopened to the public. Intrepid was commissioned in 1943, served until 1973 and became a museum in 1982. On the flight deck and hangar deck are over 30 mostly cold war era aircraft, including the A-12 Blackbird, F-14, F-16, three MiGs and numerous helicopters. Adjacent to the carrier is the French Concord and the diesel-powered submarine U.S.S. Growler. The museum is open year round. Visit www.intrepidmuseum.org. Aero Club Pilot Shop The Aero Club has teamed up with Airways, Inc (JoePilot.com) to offer an online pilot shop to benefit the Aero Club Scholarship Fund. A generous portion of the profit made through the link on this web site will go directly to the Scholarship Fund. More details.... |
